HydroRace Geodesic Racing have had their fair share of IVRA success, including in Season 2022/23. They are a team synonymous with IVRA competition, and their HyperX Clubsport Series championship was their first under IVRA organised competition.

They ended up winning the Sport category by 70 points ahead of Hugh Jass, after an incident-filled finale at Suzuka for their rivals. And with 3 wins out of 3 in the opening races of the season, it looks on paper as if they can’t have any complaints about this season.

And they have had improvements in other areas too. Their TCR effort managed a 4th placed finish in the championship this season, meaning they can bypass Pre-Qualifying for 2023/24, and signifying progress in that category as their previous best was 8th. A 2nd place at Mid-Ohio would be a highlight of that team’s season.

But for other teams in the HyperX Clubsport Series, it has been difficult. After missing out on the title last season by only 15 points last season, their Cup category effort only finished 15th this season, as despite a pair of Top 5 finishes, they also scored 3 DNFs.

In the GSI Endurance Series, they have been 3rd in the previous two seasons of LMP competition. In all fairness, any position wouldn’t be a surprise for anyone with the addition of the BMW M V8 Hybrid GTP, but having a DNF in half of the races using this car may be a slight disappointment.

And with 22nd and 23rd in GT3 Pro, it’s safe to say that the GSI Endurance Series did not go quite as planned. This means that they have no confirmed entries into this championship in 2023/24, and they have to go through the peril and jeopardy of Pre-Qualifying.

Even in the HyperX Clubsport Series, where they won a title for the first time in IVRA, they only have two confirmed entries, as a Top 6 is required. However, they may not care about having to do Pre-Qualifying once more, as they did get that illustrious title.

It’s always been great to watch HydroRace Geodesic Racing, and during the final GSI Endurance Series round at Fuji, Miguel Vigo was able to confirm that the team will be back in 2023/24. And it will be very interesting to see how the team can push on during next season, because they have never come into an IVRA season of competition as reigning champions, like they will do in a few months’ time.
